Inspired by the phrase "Existence Proceeds Essence" this work unpacks how I find purpose in the everyday. As I face a world that is seemingly absurd and lacks meaning, I find value through the embracing of moments. This I find essential for building my personal history. This video piece juxtaposes major life events, from celebrations of my lost loved one, to quotidian occurrences, like rain obscuring the view through a window. All edits are made in-camera, using record, rewind, and re-recording tactics. Through deploying this method there is no absolute precision to the cuts, which embraces chance. This releases full control to the new moments that I encounter, while attempting to hold on to what exists in the past. It calls to attention to how life happens in all shapes and sizes, and every bit of it can give meaning to existence.
